AGFun and Gret(and anyone else who this affects)-Please PM me!!!
It is amazing to hear about all of this. I also have Aspergers! I'm 29. I've had it my entire life but was only diagnosed a few years ago. I'd love to find out how I can use the dolls as therapy, even though I'm a grownup. I do have a regular therapist, but she along with anyone else doesn't really "approve" of me "playing" with dolls, calling it inappropriate. I don't take them anywhere and I'm the only one I know in person who likes AG.
In the fall I'm starting at Northeastern IL Univ. in Chicago going into Elem. Ed. I've lately been dealing with the stress of my mom, who is 57 being sick with leukemia. My dad died of a heart attack suddenly when I was 16. I've had difficulty finding support for adults with Aspergers, however I would like to try to start a support group through a mental health center called Thresholds. I've been through a lot. I can say one thing though-I never read any book from start to finish until I discovered American Girl. I've always known how to read, but have always hated it.
Maybe we can start something-an online support group for people using dolls or stuffed animals who have Aspergers, autism, PDD, ADHD or other similar disorders.
